About

Who you’re working with.

irons | design is the Los Angeles studio of Jeremy Irons: an engineer who has been building physical and digital products since 2013, with a network of collaborators brought in as each project needs.

The record

I started as a mechanical engineer at Creative Engineering in 2013 and spent the next decade designing physical products for defense, medical, consumer and industrial clients. I’m a co-inventor on an issued US patent (US 11,800,911, a radial watch band) and two published filings (US 2023/0414408 and US 2024/0417940), and I took my mechanical engineering degree with honors.

About seven years ago I started building software alongside the hardware work, mostly because the businesses I was helping needed it. Most of what you’ll find on the Work page was built for real companies and is still running today: the fulfillment system behind a zero-waste grocery, the dashboard at a Venice gym, the operation behind a podcast.

Shipping my own products also forced me to learn the less glamorous half of the job: analytics, Google Ads, and the marketing that decides whether good work gets found. It turns out that matters as much as the engineering.

All of that is why I can be useful to a small business in a way a specialist often can’t. I’ve machined the part, written the software, built the dashboard and run the ad account, so when you tell me what’s not working, I can usually tell you which piece is actually worth building, and which isn’t.

How we choose work

We take projects that align with our own purpose, and we put craft ahead of the bottom line. Work made that way carries the commitment of the people who built it.
